The Roundup on Nanaimo City Council meeting Feb 19
Click on “The Roundup…” above… When you have read it, you only need to back up to comment… I have used this method as it provides better readability than does placing a Word/pdf document into WordPress.. At least to my way of thinking…
Missed the meeting but read the Task Force report. That was the funniest thing I’ve seen for ages — couldn’t stop giggling. I had no idea what it was about and the report did nothing to explain itself, just a lot of self-conscious verbiage going around in circles. Who invented the word ‘conversate’?
How can there even be any debate — $17 million for a firehall which is essential compared to $80 million for anther useless facility downtown.
Cranberry — such a shame. It would have been a perfect site. There are no problems with the existing supportive housing. (Tell me why you would choose to use drugs in the school playground when you have your own house) I frequently shop at Chase River and would have no problem at all with the disabled, the elderly, or an addict in the checkout line with me. Interesting that none of the residents of the two large assisted living developments there made any complaints since they are the vulnerable ones. Perhaps they realize that ‘there but for the grace of God go I’
It is important to remember that we will be using the ALTERNATIVE APPROVAL PROCESS for the Fire Station which virtually excludes public participation in the decision, not because it is a Fire hall, but because we are BORROWING the money to build it with no plan to pay it off inside five years. We are doing this despite having millions of dollars in reserves and in the face of not knowing how much that money might cost to borrow in a period of rising interest costs. There was NO argument about the need for a Fire hall…
