How Public are Public Records
This set of documents provided to the OIPCBC requests a response to the nature of “public documents” and the ability of municipal authorities to redact such documents.
Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia Letter of Complaint
I await their response and will be interested in yours.
The response from the OIPCBC arrived today, August 11, 2014. Here is is:
Well done! However, there is still unfinished business with MLA Doug Routley who supported the Council’s May 5 directive.
Do you not think that the inquisition has gone on too long?
Let’s call it a “purge” of those politicians who oppose freedom of speech and freedom of association. This is a term that may be more acceptable to those on the far left of the poltical spectrum. The “purge” is still incomplete.
The use of the term purge is unfortunate since use of the word was popularized by the punitive actions of dictators such as Stalin and Mao against citizens. We live in a democracy wherein the electorate makes decisions not dictators.
It sure is not.

I stand by inquisition.
Nothing to do we right or left.
Much to do with right or wrong.
In Northern Island the waring Abrahamic faiths are again clashing.
In Palestine the same can be said.
Both confilicts will go on forever because there is no forgiveness or even an attempt at understanding each other.
Winner takes all?
Actually, there are many who are interested in peaceful coexistence and are trying to understand each other in that part of the world. I have been there and talked to some of them. Unfortunately, they are drowned out by those who have no such interest and will use whatever means available to impose their views and extinguish both the views and lives of others.
@Deryk.
So you went to Israel?
Please prove me wrong & I will take your posts more seriously.
@ Joe

Whilst I generally dislike the use of buzz words & phrases to gain the upper hand in a discussion ;there is a description of Fascism that states the Fascism will come with a bible in one hand & a flag in the other.
That we live in a democracy is debatable ; notabley so when we have those that would remove from office those that they disagree with ; without fair election.
I think the quote you were thinking of is: “When tyranny arrives on our shores, it will come with a flag in one hand, and a bible in the other” – US novelist Sinclair Lewis.
The only official definition of Fascism comes from Benito Mussolini, the founder of fascism, in which he outlines three principles of a fascist philosophy.
1.”Everything in the state”. The Government is supreme and the country is all-encompasing, and all within it must conform to the ruling body, often a dictator.
2.”Nothing outside the state”. The country must grow and the implied goal of any fascist nation is to rule the world, and have every human submit to the government.
3.”Nothing against the state”. Any type of questioning the government is not to be tolerated. If you do not see things our way, you are wrong. If you do not agree with the government, you cannot be allowed to live and taint the minds of the rest of the good citizens.
The use of militarism was implied only as a means to accomplish one of the three above principles, mainly to keep the people and rest of the world in line. Fascist countries are known for their harmony and lack of internal strife.
Fascisim is only one form of tyranny and its German and Italian examples used the flag but not the Bible. In fact German Bible believers were sent to the camps along with Jews, communists, political dissidents and homosexuals.

You seem to be at odds with yourself?
You make quite contrary stements.
Surely harmony is a worthy endevour?
Those are Mussolini’s beliefs, not mine. He may have been at odds with himself but he was intensely at odds with enough Italians that they hung him up by the heels for it.
Harmony is a worthy endeavour but not when it is enforced by the state. Read Orwell’s 1984 or China under Mao.

I may have more to say about the Notice of Motion business, when time permits.

Janet: On asking about the copyright notice back in early July, this is the response I got:

Hi Ron,
This statement is for council reports, agendas and presentations that could include plans from a builder, developer, etc. and are then “published” on a Council broadcast.
Building plans and lot survey plans are copyrighted; though the federal Copyright Act permits the release of a copy under the FOI legislation.
This statement is basically following best practices under FOI and is in accordance with both FOIPPA and the Copyright Act.
Have a great weekend.
